Thermador Warranty: Coverage, Parts and Part Numbers
How the Thermador warranty usually works on ranges, ovens and cooktops, when genuine parts matter, and how to find the right part number on the label.
Thermador’s standard warranty typically covers parts and labor for 2 years on its ranges, wall ovens and cooktops, and a repair inside that window should be arranged through Thermador’s own customer support rather than paid out of pocket. Once those 2 years end, repairs are on you unless you hold an extended service plan, so the model number on the rating label and your proof of purchase decide what happens next.
Old Westbury is a village of large North Shore estate properties, and built-in appliances normally stay with a house when it is sold. A new owner can inherit a Thermador range with no receipt in the drawer, which makes the rating label the most reliable record you have.
What does the Thermador warranty usually cover?
The standard limited warranty covers defects in materials and workmanship: a part that fails because it was made or assembled wrong, plus the labor to replace it. On a cooking appliance that usually means igniters, bake elements, gas valves, spark modules, control boards and temperature sensors that fail in normal household use. Some components, such as a refrigerator’s sealed system, may carry longer limited coverage; the warranty statement in your owner’s manual lists the details.
It usually does not cover:
- Damage from improper installation, a wrong gas conversion or poor ventilation
- Commercial or other non-household use
- Cosmetic damage not reported soon after delivery
- Power surges, fire, flooding or other outside events
What can limit or void Thermador warranty coverage?
Coverage usually turns on five questions, and a claim goes smoothly when you can answer each with a document.
| Factor | What it usually means | What to have ready |
|---|---|---|
| Date | Counts from purchase or installation | Receipt or installation invoice |
| Use | Normal household use | The installation address |
| Installation | Done per the instructions | Installer’s invoice |
| Cause | A defect, not misuse or outside damage | Photos, error codes, symptoms |
| Repair history | Earlier work did not cause the failure | Prior service records |
Under the federal Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act, a manufacturer generally cannot void a warranty just because an independent technician or a non-brand part was used, though it can refuse to pay for damage that work caused. Still, an independent repair during the warranty period is billed to you, so call Thermador first while you are inside the 2 years. Old Westbury Wolf Appliance Repair is an independent service, not manufacturer-authorized; call (475) 264-6460 once coverage has ended or a claim has been turned down.
Is a Thermador extended warranty worth buying?
An extended warranty is really a service contract, sold by a retailer, a third-party administrator or the brand, and terms vary widely. Before you pay, ask three things:
- Who sends the technician, and do they service Thermador cooking appliances regularly?
- Are control boards and gas valves covered, or only “mechanical” parts?
- Is there a deductible, a per-visit charge or a payout cap?
Then compare the price with what it would pay for. On a professional range, two of the costlier repairs are a control board, typically $400–$850, and a gas valve or spark module, typically $300–$650. A plan that costs about as much as one of those and excludes electronics is hard to justify.
Genuine or aftermarket: which Thermador parts should you use?
Genuine (OEM) parts are built to the original specification and carry the part number from Thermador’s parts catalog. Aftermarket parts are copies made by other companies; they can cost less, but fit and quality vary.
Stick with genuine parts for:
- Gas valves, orifices, spark modules and igniters. Gas flow and ignition timing are safety-critical.
- Control boards and temperature sensors. A near-match can make the oven run hot or cold, or throw error codes.
- Oven door gaskets. A poor fit leaks heat, and on a steam oven, moisture too.
Aftermarket is easier to justify for a simple item such as an oven bulb of the correct type and wattage. Knobs, grates and accessories like wok rings are still best ordered by part number so fit and finish match.
How do you find the right Thermador part number?
Finding the right part takes 4 steps:
- Find the rating label. On ranges and wall ovens it is usually on the oven frame, visible with the door or drawer open; on cooktops and rangetops it is usually underneath, with a copy often in the manual.
- Note the model number and production code. Thermador labels often show them as “E-Nr” and “FD”; the FD code helps date the appliance when the receipt is missing.
- Open the parts diagram for that exact model and note the part number, checking whether it has been superseded by a newer one.
- Match by number, not by photo. Many parts look alike across 30-, 36- and 48-inch and gas or dual-fuel models.

What does out-of-warranty Thermador repair typically cost?
After the warranty ends, these are typical ranges for common Thermador cooking repairs:
| Repair | Typical range |
|---|---|
| Diagnostic / service call | $95–$149 |
| Oven igniter or bake element | $250–$500 |
| Thermostat / temperature sensor | $280–$450 |
| Cooktop repair | $200–$750 |
| Door gasket / seal replacement | $150–$450 |
These are typical ranges, not quotes; the firm quote is given on site after diagnosis. Our repair pricing page lists the rest.
Frequently asked questions
How long is the Thermador warranty?
The standard Thermador warranty typically covers parts and labor for 2 years from purchase or installation. Some components may carry longer limited coverage, so check your model’s warranty statement.
Does an independent repair void my Thermador warranty?
Generally no: federal law keeps a manufacturer from voiding coverage just because you used an independent technician. It can still refuse to cover damage that repair caused, and work done during the warranty period is billed to you.
What do I need to file a Thermador warranty claim?
You need the model number and production code from the rating label, proof of the purchase or installation date, and a clear description of the symptom.
